EURC Payments for EU Businesses: A MiCA-Ready Euro Stablecoin Guide

How EU businesses accept EURC — Circle's MiCA-licensed euro stablecoin. Reserves, networks, MiCA status, and how it compares to USDC and bank rails.

Do this next

Create a crypto invoice

  1. Quote the invoice in fiat.
  2. Client pays USDC, USDT, or EURC.
  3. Funds settle to a wallet you already control.

TL;DR

EURC is Circle's euro-denominated stablecoin, fully reserved and issued under a MiCA E-Money Institution licence, so EU businesses can invoice and settle in euros on-chain without USD foreign-exchange exposure. It settles in seconds on networks like Ethereum, Polygon, and Solana for fractions of a cent, versus one business day for SEPA and 2-5 days for SWIFT. It fits EU B2B, SaaS, and cross-border euro flows where you want crypto speed without currency risk.

We build Settlematic, a non-custodial stablecoin invoicing and payment gateway that supports EURC alongside USDC and USDT. Every figure below is sourced to Circle's transparency page and ESMA's MiCA materials, verified 7 September 2026.

What is EURC?

EURC is a 1:1 euro-backed stablecoin issued by Circle, the same company behind USDC. Per Circle's transparency page, EURC reserves are held in euro cash and short-term euro-denominated government instruments. Each token is redeemable for one euro, and Circle publishes reserve attestations on the same cadence as USDC.

The structural difference from USDC is the denomination. USDC is a dollar token; EURC is a euro token. For an EU business that bills in euros, accepting EURC means the customer pays a euro amount and you receive a euro amount — no USD/EUR conversion, no exchange-rate window, no FX margin. That is the entire point.

EURC under MiCA

Since 1 July 2026, full CASP authorisation has been required to provide crypto-asset services to EU clients, and national regimes no longer suffice, per ESMA's MiCA framework. Circle has secured MiCA E-Money Institution authorisation for EURC and USDC, which gives EU merchants a regulated, passportable euro stablecoin. This is a meaningful distinction versus unlicensed offshore stablecoins that EU businesses would have to assess for compliance risk themselves.

Note that non-custodial does not mean unregulated. AML, sanctions screening, and Travel Rule obligations attach to payment services regardless of custody. Settlematic supports KYB/KYC onboarding and Travel Rule workflows. The honest read: for plain domestic euro payroll and routine supplier payments inside the SEPA zone, SEPA is hard to beat — it is free, final, and has no smart-contract risk. EURC wins when speed, weekend settlement, or cross-border euro reach matters more than the convenience of a bank rail. Many EU finance teams use both: SEPA for local payroll, EURC for international B2B and time-sensitive invoices.

EURC vs. USDC for EU businesses

If you bill in euros, EURC is the cleaner settlement asset — no FX. If you bill in dollars, USDC is the cleaner asset. If you bill in both, enable both. The token choice should follow your billing currency, not the other way around. For a deeper comparison of dollar stablecoins, see our USDC vs. USDT for business guide.

Which networks to use

EURC is issued on Ethereum and several Layer-2s and high-throughput chains. For B2B invoicing, default to a low-fee network and let customers override only if they need mainnet:

  • Polygon — sub-cent transfers, broad wallet support, good default for EU B2B.
  • Solana — sub-cent transfers, fastest finality, strong for high-volume checkout.
  • Ethereum mainnet — deepest liquidity but several dollars per transfer during congestion; use only when the customer requires it.
  • Base / Arbitrum — Layer-2 alternatives with low fees and Ethereum-grade security assumptions.

How Settlematic handles EURC

Settlematic is non-custodial. Every invoice or checkout address is cryptographically bound at issuance to a settlement wallet you control — cold storage, an operating wallet, or a multisig. We never hold keys and cannot redirect funds. You bill in EUR; the customer pays EURC quoted at send-time; the payment settles directly to your wallet on-chain. Pricing is a flat subscription with no percentage of volume.

For embedded checkout, multi-merchant webhooks, and subscription billing in EURC, see Settlematic Gateway. For invoicing and payment links, see Collect.

Where EURC is not the right choice

Be honest about the limits. EURC is not the right fit when:

  • Your finance team has no appetite for holding any stablecoin and needs fiat in a bank account automatically — SEPA or a custodial processor with off-ramp is simpler.
  • You need to pay local payroll in euros inside the SEPA zone, where SEPA is free and final.
  • Your customers don't hold EURC and would have to swap into it — accept USDC or USDT instead and convert on your side.

Getting started

  • Set up a corporate wallet or multisig that supports EURC on your chosen chain (Polygon or Solana is a good default).
  • Connect the settlement destination in Settlematic and enable EURC on your invoices or checkout sessions.
  • Issue a fiat-denominated invoice in EUR and have a customer pay it end to end in the sandbox before going live.

Test EURC end to end in the free sandbox, or check pricing for current plan limits. EURC and MiCA figures sourced from Circle transparency and ESMA MiCA, verified 7 September 2026; rules change.

Frequently asked questions

What is EURC and who issues it?
EURC is a euro-pegged stablecoin issued by Circle, the same issuer as USDC. Reserves are held in euro cash and short-term euro government instruments and attested regularly. Circle holds a MiCA E-Money Institution licence in the EU, making EURC a regulated euro stablecoin for EU businesses.
Is EURC compliant with MiCA?
Yes. Circle has secured MiCA E-Money Institution authorisation for EURC (and USDC) in the EU. Since 1 July 2026, full CASP/EMI authorisation has been required to provide crypto-asset services to EU clients, so a MiCA-licensed euro stablecoin is the cleaner choice for EU merchants.
Which networks support EURC?
EURC is issued on Ethereum and several Layer-2s and high-throughput chains, including Polygon, Solana, Base, and Arbitrum. For B2B invoicing, Polygon and Solana keep the customer's send cost to a fraction of a cent versus several dollars on Ethereum mainnet during congestion.
How does EURC compare to SEPA for EU B2B payments?
SEPA settles in one business day during bank hours; EURC settles on-chain in seconds, 24/7/365, including weekends and holidays. SEPA has no smart-contract risk; EURC carries the usual blockchain and issuer risk. For time-sensitive or cross-border euro flows, EURC is faster; for plain domestic payroll, SEPA is often simpler.
Should an EU business accept EURC, USDC, or both?
Both, where possible. EURC removes USD foreign-exchange exposure for euro-billing merchants; USDC gives you the deepest dollar-denominated liquidity for international buyers. A non-custodial gateway like Settlematic lets you enable both on a single invoice and let the customer choose.
